International Poetry Competition Castello Di Duino-XVI Edition
The International Poetry Competition Castello di Duino XVI Edition reserved to young people under the age of 31 is now announced. The competition has the Patronage of UNESCO Italian Commission and of Italian Foreign Office.

Deadlines section III: School and collective projects, 2019 December, 31st
- The competition is open to young people until the 31st birthday
- Participation is free.
The competition is thematic
“HOMO FABER: FREEDOM AND DESTINY”
Man and Creation: since mankind has assumed the characteristics indicated by the classification of "homo faber", women and men with their creativity, capacity and intelligence have shaped a world in which they express their freedom, which however sometimes made them slaves of an unwanted destiny.
And poetry with its song of grace or despair is part of this extraordinary story and reflects it.
Beyond these suggestions, the subject can be treated absolutely free according to personal inspiration.
It is possible to participate in one or more of the following sections:
Participants have to send only one unpublished, never prized poem (maximum 35 line).
Poems will be accepted in the mother tongue of the authors. A translation into English, Spanish, French or Italian is required.
An international Jury will evaluate the poems in the mother tongue of participants.
Works must arrive before November 30, 2019

c) by regular mail to Prof. Gabriella Valera Gruber, Via Matteotti 21, 34138, Trieste (Italy). As far as deadline is concerned, postmark data will be taken into consideration; no poem will be accepted when the jury is involved in the evaluation process (soon after the deadline).
Prizes:
First Prize € 1000
Second Prize €750
Third Prize: € 500.
In accordance with the aim of the competition to combine solidarity and poetry, the winners will choose a humanitarian cause to which they will devote a part of the prize (€200 Ifirst Prize, 150 second Prize 100 Third Prize).
Medal of the President of Italian Republic / or a Jury Special Prize for a poem with a particular social-humanitarian value
“Sergio Penco” Plate for the best poem “under 16”
Cups or other minor prizes for other noteworthy poems.
The poems of the winners and a selection of the best poems will be published for free, in both the Italian and English version in a Book printed by Publishing House Battello Stampatore Trieste. The poems are also recorded in the original language and published on YouTube.
Special mentions and minor prizes for noteworthy poems of young “poets” under 16th. The evaluation of the under 16s takes into account the ages of the competitors
1 unpublished and never prized Dramatic Work (Monologue or Dialogue between 2 people), max 5 pages (no more than 10000 characters).
A good translation into Italian is unconditionally required. The works will not Be evaluated in their original language but only in their Italian translation.

Prizes:
The jury will designate three winners who will awarded with publication, cups and plates.
The jury will reserve the right of selecting other dramas of special worth.
The best dramas will be performed in an important city location within the Prize Giving Ceremony events.
Deadline : 2019 December 31st
The jury will designate the best Poetry-Projects presented as a collective work by Schools or Literary Association or other Entities, for example groups working in hospitals, rehab centers, jails…
- 1st prize 500 euro, that have to be devoted to an humanitarian scope chosen by the awarded group
- other minor prizes.
To the prized or considered as noteworthy schools - groups, which will come to Trieste for the prize- giving ceremony a whole day of readings and performance is reserved in an important location of the city. Participants will have the opportunity to read their poems and teacher/ coordinators to explain their projects.
Projects must be sent as follow:

The list of the winners will be published in the website of the competition www.castellodiduinopoesia.org and divulgated by social, by press and online.
Winners will be informed by e-mail and /or phone.
The prize-giving ceremony will take place on March 29, 2020 in Duino Castle.
